Today, all across the world, people are joining
together to celebrate the birthday of one of Latin
music’s brightest stars, Selena . On April 16,
2015, Selena would have celebrated her 44th
birthday. Though 2015 marked the 20th
anniversary of the singer’s tragic death, she
remains alive in the hearts of all her
fans.
Talkwithbeejay.blogspot.com is reflecting on her life
and amazing career in honor of her birthday!
Selena’s Birthday: Legendary Latin
Singer Would Have Turned 44
Selena rose to Latin music superstardom in the
1980s. She first sang with her band Selena Y
Los Dinos and then found success as a solo
artist. During her career, Selena was crowned
the “Queen of Tejano,” the popular Latin music
genre originating from the American Southwest.
In 1992, her album Entre A Mi Mundo was a
commercial smash, going certified platinum six-
times. Her following Live! album won her the
Grammy Award for Best Mexican/American
Album of the Year in 1993. In just eleven years,
Selena released seven albums with Selena Y Los
Dinos, four records on her own, and one award
winning live album. Incredible!
Tragically, Selena’s life was cut short when she
was murdered by Yolanda Saldívar in 1995 at
just 23 years old. In 2015, fans observed the
20th anniversary of Selena’s death by sharing
their love for the singer online. Those who were
lucky enough to have seen Selena live shared
their experiences, while others lamented how
they never had a chance to see her on stage.
Adrienne Bailon paid tribute to Selena by
performing a rendition of her hit song, “I Could
Fall In Love” on the March 31 episode of The
Real . Adrienne’s heartfelt performance was extra
special, as Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla ,
watched from the audience.
Suzette then spoke with the cast of The Real to
discuss Selena and the 1997 biopic that had
Jennifer Lopez in the starring role. Suzette gave
props to everyone involved in the production,
noting how hard Jennifer worked to do Selena
justice.
Selena’s fans were surprised by an April 7
Facebook post by the Quintanilla family.
Selena’s family announced they had partnered
with Acrovirt, LLC to start an Indiegogo
campaign in hopes of bringing the Selena
experience to a brand new generation. They aim
to raise $500,000 in order to create a hologram
Selena that would not only tour, but release new
music and videos!
Looking back at her amazing career, it’s such a
shame that she’s gone. Happy Birthday, Selena!
